It’s heartbreaking to see people say that LA "deserves" these fires. This kind of thinking is so detached from reality and the pain so many are experiencing. Los Angeles isn’t just made up of wealthy individuals who can easily rebuild—there are countless families who are losing everything, their homes and memories reduced to ash. The Eaton Fire is devastating, displacing families and wildlife alike, and the Palisades are suffering immensely too. I’ve had to leave behind a life in my home, unsure of what will be left when I return, while so many of my friends have already lost everything. Please, let’s stand together during this tragedy. Support your community, support the wildlife—this is the time for compassion, not cruelty!

Historic wildfires blaze through LA months after the Democratically-run city cut fire service funds.
News headlines rhetorically ask us to consider what happens when CA inmates - working as firefighters for roughly $6 per day - cannot contain unprecedented fires.
Billionaires drain the already water-starved state of its supply as hydrants dry up when needed most.
This system has to go.

We have Canadian firefighters arriving to help battle the fires in LA. Mexican firefighters have crossed the border to stand with us, offering their strength and courage. Now, South African firefighters have also landed to join the effort. It's truly beautiful to see the world coming together in solidarity, but it’s heartbreaking to reflect on how some Americans treat those who aren’t from here or who look different from them. It's time to rethink those biases because when these brave people put on their uniforms, they all share one purpose: to save lives and fight these devastating fires!

January 2, 2023 - Two fascists set themselves on fire trying to burn down a Servicio de Inmigracion building in Bakersfield, California.
The business helps immigrants work with the immigration process and pay their income taxes. The fire didn’t spread and was quickly put out by the fire department. [video]

The current LA fire is terrifying. I looked up whether the synagogue where I did my first solo teaching was still standing and found only that its "status is unknown." The other synagogue in the area, a Chabad, is destroyed. The torah scrolls from the Chabad were evacuated, and I assume the other synagogue would have done the same, but "status unknown" says so much.

This is actually not funny and I hate the fact that Trump and the Republicans have caused me to lose compassion.
James Woods should have known by now that EVERYTHING TRUMP TOUCHES DIES.
